Mendon woman killed in Monday accident near Nauvoo

Head-on collision in Hancock County sends five to hospital.

HANCOCK COUNTY - A Mendon woman passed away Monday from injuries after a fatal accident on Highway 96 near 2215 North in Nauvoo, Illinois.
According to a Hancock County Sheriff's Office report, at approximately 3:10 p.m., a vehicle driven by Spencer Clark crossed into the southbound lane, and in an attempt to avoid a collision, Robyn L. Villegas, of Keokuk steered into the northbound lane,  but both vehicles collided after Clark swerved back into his lane. 
Tina M. Huston, of Mendon, a passenger in Villegas' vehicle passed away after being life-flighted to OSF in Peoria. Jessica Smith, of Phoenix, a passenger in Villegas' vehicle, was life-flighted from the scene in critical condition.  A 15-year-old passenger in Villegas' vehicle was life-flighted to St. John's Hospital in Springfield for further treatment. Villegas was treated for minor injuries at Carthage Memorial Hospital. Clark was transported to Carthage Memorial Hospital, then to OSF in Peoria, due to his severe injuries. 
The investigation is ongoing by the Hancock County Sheriff's Office.
