Midtown again sponsoring Spirit Tree

Signup sheets still available at salon

FORT MADISON - Midtown Hairstyling is gearing up for another successful year supporting their very own Spirit Tree. Started in 2022 by owner and Stylist Sarah Lawson, the Spirit Tree has supported dozens of families by eliminating some financial stress going into the new school year.
Signup sheets are sent to local elementaries for parents and guardians to fill out and return to Midtown Hairstyling. These sign-up sheets provide all the information needed to help shoppers personalize school supplies for students. Favorite color, sports, and superheroes are just some of the fun things kids love. These little details help Midtown’s shoppers personalize school supplies picked out just for them. So far, 74 kids are signed up with more coming in.
Midtown has learned a lot over the last three years operating the community Spirit Tree. To be as effective as possible, last year they implemented personal shoppers-clients and family members who shop for the students as monetary donations come in. This is a huge help getting items purchased at the same time so full backpacks are ready sooner. All families are called no later than two weeks before school starts to pick up their supplies.
For the upcoming 2026-2027 school year, Midtown is also accepting donations of gently used or like new school items.
Donations can be dropped off at Midtown Hairstyling at 701 18th Street in Fort Madison.
If you have not received a signup sheet and would like one, there are extras available at Midtown. Please stop in and fill out. Says Lawson, “Thank you to everyone has and is participating in the success of the Spirit Tree. We look forward to supporting our community every year, and every year we are blown away by the support received."
