FORT MADISON – The Notre Dame Nikes took both the boys' and the girls' golf meets at a dual Monday at Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course in Fort Madison.
Allee Booten was medalist in the girls' meet for Notre Dame, carding a 39 to lead the Nikes to a 200-206 win. Emma Mohrfeld shot a 47 for HTC, followed by Elizabeth Griffin with a 49, Calli Kruse at 54, and Eva Denning with a 56 for the scoring golfers. Emersyn Hopkins shot a 50 for second best for Notre Dame.
In the boys' meet, Max Kruse shot a 39 for medalist honors for the Crusaders, who lost 170-179. Hudson Neally shot a 40 for Notre Dame. Sam Yonker had a 42, while Kale Eggar and Ari Jennings each shot 44s. HTC’s scoring golfers after Kruse were Zane Houtz (45), Jameson Denning (47), and Nathan Box (48). Brock Scheetz and Blake Mohrfeld both shot 49s for the Crusaders.
Bloodhound boys down BHS
BURLINGTON –Jonah Tackett scored three goals, while Hunter Wiegand and Jack Ragar each had two more as Fort Madison rolled Burlington 8-0 in Southeast Conference boys' soccer action Monday night in Burlington.
Tackett scored 17 minutes into the game on assists from Connor Horn and Jake Haessig. Horn would score again about eight minutes later and then Ragar scored back-to-back off a penalty kick and sends from Stefan Berlett and Horn, all in the first half.
Tackett and Weigand both scored twice in the second half with Wiegand’s goal with two minutes left setting the final score.
Keelynd Ross earned the shutout with one save.
The Hounds improve to 8-4-2 on the year (6-2 in Southeast Conference) and hosts Mt. Pleasant Thursday.
Keokuk girls knock off Fairfield
KEOKUK - The Keokuk High School Girls' Soccer team downed Fairfield 3-1 Monday. The Lady Chiefs avenged a 1-9 loss earlier in the year at Fairfield. The Chiefs were led by Relina Wong in the goal with nine saves.
Fairfield opened the scoring at the 13:26 mark in the first half. Keokuk scored two minutes later to tie things up and then added two more in the second half. Bella Boltz scored the first half goal on a penalty kick and then scored again four minutes into the second half. Ellie Brewer broke the tie in the second half at 38:25. Brewer also had an assist.
Keokuk improves to 5-7 on the year, the most victories since 2018 when the team went 8-8, and are 3-4 in the conference.
Hawks sign letters of intent
DONNELLSON – The Hawks’ Cam Thornburg and Marie Young both signed letters of intent to continue their athletic careers at college last week at Central Lee High School.
Thornburg will play football for Briar Cliffs University in Sioux City in the fall, while Young will go to Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids to play softball.
