November exhibit to focus on artistic process

FORT MADISON - The November exhibition at the FMAAA Art Center is focused on artistic process.
A Season of Study by Jane Elizabeth Shank’s body of work encompasses the quick capture of plein air painting and the further development of studio pieces from the originals. The pieces from the field target, define, and hold attention. The studio work involves deep consideration and refinement to achieve the emphasis this artist wants the piece to hold.
The Opening Reception for this exhibition will be held Thursday, November 9 from 5 pm to 7 pm at the FMAAA Art Center located at 825 Avenue G in Fort Madison, IA. The exhibition will be on display through November 30, 2023 from 10 am to 5 pm Tuesday – Saturday. This month’s sponsor is Greene Acres Art, the studio of Lori Illner Greene, Executive Director of FMAAA.
When reflecting back on this year, Jane Elizabeth of Wayland, Iowa says, “It’s been a journey that encompasses the entire process from creating art en plein air to using it as an inspiration in the studio. When I came up with the idea for this exhibit, I wanted to explore how my plein air studies could improve my overall style and skill level. This exhibit showcases my learning process.” 
Jane Elizabeth will be on hand to discuss her collection during Lunch ala Art on Friday, November 17 at noon. Reservations are recommended for lunch, but everyone is welcome to attend the artist talk that immediately follows at 12:30 pm.
This month’s FINALE, a performance evening in the Main Gallery, features Victor Farias on guitar and piano Saturday, November 18 from 7 pm to 8 pm. This is a free to attend event with the exhibit as the backdrop to the performance.
Another chance to view this exhibition is Saturday, November 25thwhen the Main Gallery will also hold a book signing event from 10am to 2pm of local authors and illustrators.
