Editor:
Monopoly was my favorite game growing up, but jail was the last place I wanted to be. If you haven't heard by now, eighty-three upstanding citizens of Fort Madison were served creative warrants in April. However, due to the generosity of their friends, family, and personal bank accounts, we are happy to report that they still have their "Get out of Jail Free" card available to use should such an occasion arise, and the Old Fort Madison Preservation Committee has grown $10,000 higher on their War Chest goal.
Each of those on the Events Fundraising Committee, comprised of Susan Spencer, Robin Delaney, Linda Smith, Dr. Marie Brady-Whitcanack, Cyndie Reppert, Helen Johnson, Becky Rump, and Karen Simonson, along with the other Fort Board members, express their sincere thanks for making it a successful campaign. Not only were funds raised, but a sense of awareness of the project also increased as everyone worked together for the common good of the community.
Quoting Mother Teresa, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”
Because of your generosity, the jail cell in the Historical Society Museum remains empty and the bed unused.
Karen Simonson,
Fort Madison
