LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Reader says Watkins not experienced enough

Posted

To the Editor:

Blaine Watkins is running for public office in the Iowa House of Representatives. I do not know Blaine Watkins, but I’ve read many glowing opinions of him. My issues with Mr. Watkins are two-fold; first, even though he has a politician’s degree and has worked in the capital as an assistant, I feel his tender age has not afforded him enough life experience to really understand the result of his decisions. Most of his would-be constituents are three times his age. Is he able to relate?

Secondly, Blaine is comfortable with the relentless and typically negative attack advertising blitz that falsely refers to the “radical left wants to raise your taxes” picturing nationally recognized members of the Democratic Party. At least half of those pictured are not in or running for office. How does this add up; what effect does an Iowa House Representative from the 100th District of Iowa have on national politics? It is just the usual divisive Republican rhetoric. Sadly, allowing the “machine” to manage your advertising and stating you are a “true Trump Republican” is not in your best interest. I fear Mr. Watkins’ youthfulness will allow him to be lead and not lead. He will become just another Kim Reynolds rubber stamp, and we have far too many of those already.
