Reader supports Wahls in U.S. Senate race

In the US senate race primary, I'm left to decide between two major candidates; Josh Turek and Zach Wahls. I think Iowans should pick their representative and senators, not dark money from God knows where or elected officials from Washington D.C.
Josh Turek has grit and a strong personal story, but this race should focus on what a senator will do, not on narratives. I’m concerned he voted for a three-strikes law, which I view as removing judicial discretion. I was also disappointed that he stayed silent when Nathan Sage dropped out and attacked Wahls — a moment for principled leadership that he missed. I suspect Sage may be paid by interests seeking to weaken Wahls, and the dark money flowing through VoteVets — whether from political leaders or wealthy donors backing a “moderate” — is troubling. For these reasons, I’m passing on Turek’s candidacy.

The person I want for Iowa in the US Senate is Zach Wahls. I feel like I can trust Zach to represent Iowans well and to think through legislation clearly and thoroughly, weighing the pros and cons judiciously. I have seen Zach’s commitment to public service when there was nothing to gain except the education and inspiration of young voters. He thinks through and proposes policies and initiatives that Iowa needs. I also appreciate the kind of campaign he is running. I believe he is demonstrating the kind of Iowa values that we used to revere before Republicans started working solely for the one percent. I would urge everyone to give Zach Wahls a serious look. I believe he is an excellent choice as our next US Senator and deserves your vote.
