FORT MADISON – At the Fort Madison School District board meeting Wednesday last night, Director of Maintenance Nic Chiri said in his presentation several summer projects for the district have been completed or are almost finished, including the solar panel project, the roof replacement project, black fencing, new basketball hoops, along with regular maintenance.
“All the equipment is in place, I'd say 90% of it's in place,” said Chiri about the solar panel project, noting that the football field’s electrical work for the solar panels has been done and the carport will be underway next month once new materials come in. Board Vice President Mio Santiago asked about the timeline regarding the carport, to which Chiri said should be done conservatively within the next month.
The roof project that got approved earlier this summer is completed.
“That is a near 17,000 square foot section of the roof that got completely redone, and then half of that is a recoating,” said Chiri, adding that the roof comes with 30-year warranties.
The district is getting black fencing, and so far 450 feet has been done. Chiri added that basketball hoops were also installed at the PK-6 school building.
“The track resurfacing that was also approved is slated to be done September 28th,” said Chiri, which would be a three- to four-day project. The hallways of the district have been painted, with more to do, along with replacing 250 lights with LED lights to save energy throughout the district.
