Sunday rollover claims one in Hancock County

22-year-old Keokuk woman killed in accident near Carthage

CARTHAGE - On April 13, 2025, at approximately 12:01 AM, Hancock County 911 dispatch received a call reporting a motor vehicle accident. Deputies responded to the scene at 1798 East County Road 1500 in rural Carthage.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2016 Toyota sedan was traveling eastbound on County Road 1500 North when it left the roadway on the right side. The vehicle struck a tree and rolled several times.
The driver, Riley Cramsey, 18, of Carthage, and a male juvenile passenger in the front seat sustained serious injuries and were transported by Air Evac to a hospital in Iowa City.
Another passenger, Desiree Houston, 18, of Hamilton, Illinois, was transported by ambulance to Carthage Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and later released.
Tragically, a fourth occupant, Sherry Lynn Sue Crowell, 22, of Keokuk, Iowa, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An accident reconstructionist from the Illinois State Police was called in to assist with the ongoing investigation. Charges are currently pending.
