FORT MADISON – Lee County Supervisors want feedback on potential energy project ordinances for the county.
Over the past several months, supervisors have been meeting with staff at Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission to measure the pros and cons of an ordinance or ordinances that would regulate solar and wind energy companies who want to stand up projects in the county.
Supervisor Chairman Tom Schulz sent out an email Sunday indicating the meeting would take place at the Lee County Sheriff’s Department from 6 p.m. to approximately 8 p.m. to share information and receive input on potential regulations.
The purpose of the ordinances is to establish a set of minimum standards for the siting, placement, construction, installation, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning of Commercial Wind Energy Conversion systems and Solar Farm Energy systems in order to protect the public health, safety, and community welfare of the residents of Lee County.
The ordinances outline such issues as setbacks from rural property lines, permitting, decommissioning, and other issues that to date have not had any regulation in the county.
Both ordinances are now available for review through links on the front page of the Lee County website at www.leecounty.org.
