Judy Ann Kolvis, 79, of Keokuk, IA, died Friday, March 10, 2023 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
She was born on May 1, 1943 in Waukegan, IL, the daughter of Albert Joseph “Bud” and Leasurean “Wene” (Varner) McGillivray. She graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School with the Class of 1961.
On June 1, 1984, Judy was united in marriage to Lawrence “Larry” Kolvis, Jr. in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on March 23, 2009.
She had been employed at Mitchell’s Knotty Pine Restaurant and also at the Eagles Club, both in Keokuk.
Judy enjoyed shopping at thrift stores, looking for a bargain and unique mugs to add to her mug collection. She loved going on road trips with her husband, Larry and sitting on her porch drinking coffee or a beer. Judy had a sassy and stubborn personality and everyone that knew her loved her. She never knew a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Most of all, Judy loved spending time with her family and her dogs and cats.
She is survived by two sons, Kenny Irvin and James Wigginton (Libby) all of Keokuk, one daughter, Laysha Kolvis (Richard Winter) of Keokuk, two grandchildren, Samantha Rose (Alan Rose, Jr.) and Joey Irvin (Kimberlee Jo Milton), great-grandchildren, Mason, Ethan and Andrew Rose, Adalynn Schaeffer and one more on the way, Evelyn Irvin and Jameson Irvin. She is also survived by one sister, Shirley Kiester of Keokuk, a niece, a nephew, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides her husband she was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother-in-law, Jerry Kiester.
A gathering of remembrance will be held from 5 – 7 p.m., Thursday, March 23, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with family meeting with friends at that time.
Memorials may be made to Laysha Kolvis for her children’s education fund.
