LEE COUNTY – The winter weather advisory that was posted for Lee County by the National Weather Service out of the Quad Cities has been upgraded to a winter storm warning with localized heavy snow from 6 a.m. Wednesday to 3 a.m. Thursday.
Heavy snow is expected with confidence better than 90 percent of a widespread 4 to 6 inches of snow with narrow bands of up to eight inches in some areas.
Light snow will develop around midnight and overspread the area through sunrise Wednesday as the storm approaches. The heaviest snow looks to occur between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday. Snowfall rates may approach an inch per hour at times. The snow will be the dry, fluffy type which will easily drift, especially in rural and open areas.
The warning is for portions of northwest and west central Illinois, southeast Iowa, and northeast Missouri.
Travel conditions could be very difficult especially during commute hours Wednesday morning and evening. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

Minimum wind chills look to be in the 5 to 20 below zero range by sunrise Thursday. The coldest wind chills look to be north of Interstate 80 and west of the Mississippi. A second storm system is forecast to impact the area Friday night into Saturday. A wintry mix of precipitation is expected along with some accumulating snow. Minimum wind chills may approach or exceed 20 below zero Saturday night and Sunday night, especially along and north of Interstate 80.
Yet another storm system is forecast to impact the area Monday into Tuesday with accumulating snow possible.
