Francis “Frank” A. Bentler, 91, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 7:30 PM at the Ft. Madison Community Hospital.
He was born on April 22, 1928 in Houghton to Joseph and and Deanna Holtkamp Bentler. On October 10, 1950 he married Joan Holtkamp in Houghton and she passed away on November 4, 2019. Frank and Joan owned and operated Bentler Rental and Celebration Bridal Shop. He was a member of Ss. Mary & Joseph Church, the Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of the Elks. Frank served in the US Army during the Korean War where he served on the front line and was an honor guard for the Supreme Commander. Frank and Joan wintered in Florida and enjoyed playing lawn bowling.
Survivors include one son, Bob (Bonnie) Bentler of Des Peres, Mo.; two daughters, Jeanne (Bob) Drollinger of Wever and Suzanne (Ted) Vonderhaar of West Point; 12 grandchildren, R.J. Bentler, Peter Bentler, Christopher Bentler, Tara Allard, Trent Drollinger, Ted Bentler, Fritz Bentler, Matthew Bentler, Kathleen Boie, Joe Vonderhaar, John Vonderhaar and Maria Vonderhaar; 16 great grandchildren and one on the way; one brother, Anthony Bentler of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Rita Meyers of Davenport; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; two sons, Thomas and Billy Joe; six sisters and two brothers.
Friends may call after 2 PM on Friday, January 3, 2020 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory where the family will meet with friends from 4:00 PM-5:30 PM. A wake service will be held at 5:30 PM. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Ss. Mary & Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Phung officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery with military rites provided by the Ft. Madison Veterans Honor Guard.
