Area athletes honored with post-season awards

All conference lists released this week.

LEE COUNTY - Central Lee’s Kenna Sandoval was named the SEISC South Division’s co-player of the year, leading the way among area all-conference selections in boys and girls basketball.
Sandoval was one of six players who were named first-team all-conference in their respective leagues, joining Fort Madison’s Nolan Guzman, Hadley Wolfe and Dayonna Davis, Holy Trinity’s Layne Rung, and Central Lee’s Will Hayes.
A look at the area selections in the Southeast Conference and Southeast Iowa Superconference.
SEISC GIRLS — Sandoval was a unanimous selection after a season in which she led the South Division in scoring (17.3 points) and rebounds (9.4).
Teammates Taylor Jones and Nora Lampe were second-team choices. Jones was at her best late in the season, finishing the year averaging 10.8 points. Lampe, at 10.2 points, was second in the division at 3.1 3-pointers per game.
Holy Trinity’s Adalyn Kruse was also a second-team selection. Kruse was second in the division with 8.5 rebounds per game to go with 11.6 points per game.
Central Lee’s Jayden Mueller and Macie Doty and Holy Trinity’s Olivia Bendlage and Elizabeth Griffin were honorable mention selections.
SOUTHEAST CONFERENCE BOYS — Guzman was a unanimous first-team selection after finishing second in the conference in scoring at 20 points per game while averaging six rebounds per game. Guzman had one of the state’s best individual games this season — his program-record 51 points against Keokuk in the final regular-season conference game tied for fourth in single-game scoring in Iowa this season.
Darius Foy and Jonah Tackett were honorable mention selections.

Keokuk's Jaxon Clark was named Southeast Conference Player of the Year. Jalen Clark and Chayce Smith were named to the 2nd team.
SEISC SOUTH DIVISION BOYS — Hayes was a unanimous choice for the first team, averaging 12.7 points and 6.9 points per game, while ranking second in blocked shots at 1.3 per game.
Rung joined him on the first team after finishing second in the division in scoring at 19.5 points. Rung also led the division with 2.3 3-pointers per game and was fifth in assists at 3.6
Central Lee’s Carson Morrison and Owen Swan and Holy Trinity’s Jack Ragar were second-team choices. Morrison averaged 11.3 points and Swan averaged 9.1, while Ragar averaged 14.6 points and ranked fourth in the division with 3.8 assists per game.
Holy Trinity’s Nathan Box and Corbin Van Niewaal and Central Lee’s Kaden Swan and Brett Cook were honorable mention choices.
SOUTHEAST CONFERENCE GIRLS — Davis and Wolfe finished their careers as first-team choices.
Davis was fifth in the conference in scoring at 14.4 points and fifth in rebounding at 6.9. Wolfe was sixth in scoring at 13.8 points and third in assists at 2.8. She averaged two 3-pointers made per game, ranking fifth.
Fort Madison’s Halle Menke was a second-team choice. Menke ranked third in rebounding at 7.4 per game and was second in blocks at 1.2. She also averaged 6.3 points.
Reilynn Turnbull and Charley Huebner were honorable mention choices.
