Barnes and Bowie added to Hounds' state roster

Damico lone Hawk to make trip to Des Moines

FORT MADISON – Caden Barnes has been added to the roster of Fort Madison Bloodhounds making the trip to the IHSAA/IGHSAU State Track and Field Meet beginning Thursday in Des Moines at Drake.
Barnes joins Urijah Brooks in the shotput competition which begins at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Brooks finished second at the Mt. Pleasant qualifier Friday. Barnes had a qualifying throw which had to be in the top eight of those that didn’t qualify as a district champion or runner-up.
Nolan Guzman also qualified in the 800 meter run. Guzman finished third at sectionals, but his time was enough to get him in the top eight times of those that didn’t take a title or runner-up spot. Guzman is already on the roster with the 4x800 relay team, who has the top seed in 3A.
Fort Madison’s Riley Tripp, who finished 3rd in the 1600, missed qualifying by .7 of a second. He will make the trip also as part of the 4x800 Hound relay team.
Kendan Bowie’s 6’4” leap at sectionals would good enough to qualify him for the high jump at the state meet. The high jump commences at 9 a.m. Thursday morning. Bowie is seeded 4th despite finishing 3rd at sectionals. Fairfield’s Ryan Gilberson and Eli Zillman took the top two spots at the Mt. Pleasant sectionals.

Damico qualifies for state cross-country meet
PRAIRIE CITY – Central Lee’s Kegan Damico qualified for the IHSAA state track and field meet beginning Thursday morning at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
Damico was the lone Hawk to make the trip with a 56.91 in the 400 meter hurdles, his season best effort. Eight other Hawks men and women set personal records at the event.
Damico will run Friday approximately 12:20 p.m. in heat 1 lane 7.

Griffin qualifies for HTC girls
WAPELLO – Elizabeth Griffin advanced to the second round of the IGHSAU girls regional golf tournament with a fifth-place finish at Heritage Oaks Golf Club in Wapello.
Griffin, a sophomore at Holy Trinity Catholic carded a 100 qualifying her for the Class 1A Region 5 finals at Little Bear Country Club in Midland on Wednesday. The Crusaders finished 6th as a team with a 452 points.
New London’s Emma Busby won the first round with a 93.

Wright wins title at Southeast Conference
MOUNT PLEASANT - Fort Madison's Natalie Wright won a dramatic 3-hole playoff with four other girls from Keokuk to to take the Southeast Conference individual title Wednesday at Mt. Pleasant
The Lady Hounds shot a 386, nine strokes behind conference champion Keokuk with a 367. Fort Madison put three girls on the All-Conference team including Wright, Kylie Lumino, and Jaycee Fullenkamp. Lumino and Wright were also named ot the All-Tournament team.
