KEOKUK – The Fort Madison Bloodhound cross-country teams are rounding into shape early.
After top two divisional finishes Saturday at Cedar Rapids Prairie, both boys and girls Fort Madison harriers won the Keokuk Invitational Thursday at Elks Fairview Golf Course.
The Lady Hounds took the top four spots and five of the top six sending a big message to the area, this is a team to contend with.
Avery Rump took first with an 18:59.1 besting her Saturday 5K time by roughly 28 seconds. Addison Rump was second with a 20:05.8. Mara Smith finished 3rd at 20:50.7. Jordan Marshall was 4th in team scoring and 6th overall at 21:43.3. Ellie Hellman was other scoring runner for the Lady Hounds finishing in 6th team scoring with a 22:00.3, eighth overall.
McKayla Schinstock was right behind Hellman at 22:05.0 in 9th overall.
Other runners for the girls included Eloise Lamb - 15th, Ellie Huebner – 17th, and Abbie Ralph 28th.

The girls finished just one point off of perfect with 16 for the title. Keokuk was 2nd with 58 led by Baylee Billings 5th place finish. Violet Shead was also in the top 10.
Central Lee was 3rd in the girls event. Aubree Bunnell finished in 8th place with a 22:37.6 to lead the Lady Hawks. Afton Maynes finished 18th in team scoring with a 24:16.3. Other scoring runners included Evelyn Adkins (23rd), Macy Anderson (24th) and Gabby Maynes.
For the boys Riley Tripp earned his second straight runner-up meal with a 16:57.5. Clark County’s Mason McDaniel ran a sub 16 15:58.9 to win the overall.
Hunter Wiegand took 5th in team scoring with a 17:31.1 followed by Nolan Guzman’s 17:40.2. Mason McLey and Oliver Wiese were the other scoring runners for the Hounds finishing 7th and 13th. Guzman and McLey finished 6th and 7th overall giving Fort Madison a 33 team score.
Other runners for the Hounds included Jacob Walter (24th) and Colton Tripp (26th).
Central Lee boys finished fourth with 110 points. Orion St. Clair lead the Hawks with a 14th place finish at 18:50.2. Austin Forgarty had a 19:04.0 for 18th place and Caden Crozier ran a 19:17.1 for 21st in team scoring. Other scoring runners for the Hawks included Caedon Newton (22nd) and Kaidin Humes (35th). Other runners included Henry Robbins (36th) and Jaedin Oglesby (45th).
Keokuk’s boys finished 7th with 130 points. The Chiefs were led by Sam Higbie, who finished in the top 5 at 17:25.6. Kyan Campbell was 23rd, Carter Killoren finished 29th, Ethan Totten (31st) and Caleb Mondon (43rd).
