Bloodhounds' teams 3rd at SEC meet

Avery Rump, Iris Dahl race to end in 1500

FAIRFIELD – The Fort Madison girls' and boys' track squads captured 3rd at the annual Southeast Conference track meet Thursday in Fairfield.
The girls finished with a team total of 104 points behind Washington’s 157 and Mt. Pleasant’s 160.5. Fairfield took the team title in the boys' meet with 152 points. Washington was second with 120 points and Fort Madison took third with 111. Keokuk was 5th with 65.
For the boys, the relay teams shined once again with the 4x400 team of Mason McLey, Nolan Guzman, Julian Dear, and Peyton Lambert taking first just .46 seconds ahead of Keokuk at 3:31.01. The 4x800 relay team of Noah Krogmeier, Lambert, McLey, and Guzman also took 1st with an 8:40.44. as did the Distance Medley team of Aurelio Jaciunde, Dayton Lamar, McLey, and Riley Tripp at 3:49.81.
In individual events, Dayton Lamar leaped to one of his best long jump performances of the season at 21’6”, just an inch away from the title. Brayton Schneider threw the discus 149’4” for a second-place finish in the discus.
Lambert ran a nice 51.42 in the open 400 trailing Fairfield’s Gabe Tejada by a second.  Nolan Guzman also finished second to Tejada in the open 800, as well. Guzman ran a 1:59.34 and Lambert took third in the 800 at 2:03.10. Tripp was third in the 1600 at 4:39.95 and third in the 3200 at 10:37.43.
Gavin Callahan raced to a second in the 110 hurdles at 15.97.
At the girls' race, the Lady Hounds got a first-place finish from Mara Smith in the 800 meters at 2:28.85. Avery Rump and Iris Dahl ran neck-and-neck in the 1500 meter run with Dahl edging the Fort Madison junior by .17 seconds with a 4:57.65. That puts both times in the top 20 in Class 3A in the state. Jordyn Marshall was third in the run at 5:09.36. The freshman has a top 30 time with a 5:04.81 on May 1.
Rump won the 3000-meter run with a 11:00.76. Her 10:37.18 on May 1, also at WACO, is currently the 6th-best time in Class 3A.
Brylie Lorence earned 2nd in the shotput and the discus behind Burlington’s Kylee Hill. Lorence threw the shot 45’2.50”, and the discus 121’7”.
The girls' 4x800 squad of Addison Rump, Mara Smith, McKayla Schinstock, and Avery Rump blew away the field with a 9.52.25, a full 46 seconds ahead of the pack. That time moved them into 12th place in 3A in the state and was the Hounds' best time of the season in the relay. The girls also got a first-place effort from the Distance Medley team of Lillian Gelsthorpe, Olivia Buckner, Smith, and Avery Rump with a 4:25.07, another top-20 time in Class 3A.
The Hounds travel to Mt. Pleasant for state qualifying on Thursday. The top two finishers in each event qualify for the state meet beginning Wednesday next week. Others could qualify depending on performance against other competitors across 3A.
