LEE COUNTY - Four area high school football players were first-team all-district selections, while Presley Myers and Adalyn Kruse earned all-state recognition in volleyball for the past fall sports' season.
Fort Madison’s Aurelio Jaciunde was a first-team pick at defensive back in Class 3A District 4. Central Lee fullback Peter Seyb, offensive lineman Cam Thornburg, and defensive back Brett Cook were first-team picks in Class 2A District 6.
A look at the honorees for the Bloodhounds and the Hawks:
FORT MADISON: Jaciunde, only a sophomore, had a breakout season on offense and defense.
Jaciunde had 33 tackles and two interceptions on defense. He had 20 catches for 197 yards and one touchdown on offense, while also rushing for 136 yards.
Sophomore Moses Thacher was a second-team selection at running back after rushing for a team-high 468 yards and seven touchdowns. Linebacker Marshall Heitmann, who led the Bloodhounds with 33 tackles, defensive back Jayden Cratton, who had 10 tackles and an interception, and punter Connor Horn were picked on the second team.
Ahkeil Wilkerson, Markus Holbert, Eric Cornelis, Cal Hennings, and Owen Huffman were honorable-mention selections.
CENTRAL LEE: Seyb was the Hawks’ leading rusher with 510 yards and three touchdowns. Thornburg dominated up front, with a team-high 38 pancake blocks. Cook led the Hawks with 65 ½ tackles, including nine for loss, and had three interceptions.
Defensive ends Odin Mullins (44 tackles) and Will Hayes (42 ½ tackles) were named to the second team, along with offensive lineman Jack Benner, defensive back Carson Morrison (31 ½ tackles), senior Ward Fraise as a kick returner, and punter Colton Taft.
