Hawks get first SEI Superconference win

Central Lee boys overcome Manning's 21 in win.

DONNELLSON - The Central Lee boys got their first win in the Southeast Iowa Superconference and they did it at home Friday night.

The Hawks got 13 points from sophomore Brayden Wyrick and eight from Corbin Pohren as Central Lee held off Van Buren 42-38.

Jackson Manning led all scorers with 21 points for the Warriors including 17 in the second half.

Van Buren took the lead with six minutes left in the game at 32-31, but Central Lee went on an 11-7 run to seal the win.

The Hawks trailed by one at the end of the first quarter. The game was kept tight through the second quarter with Central Lee opening up small leads of four points on several occassions and held a 16-14 lead at the half.

Aden Ross and Chase Johnson each had six points for the 3-13 (1-11) Hawks. Van Buren falls to 3-11 (2-9 in SEI Superconference).

The Hawks travel to West Burlington on Tuesday for a girls/boys varsity doubleheader.
