Hawks, HTC have tough regional brackets

Crusaders at North Cedar; Central Lee girls get No. 9 Mediapolis

LEE COUNTY - Holy Trinity and Central Lee not only will be on the road to open the girls basketball regional tournament, they are also in the bracket with some of the state’s top teams.
Pairings for Class 1A, 2A and 3A were released on Thursday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.
Holy Trinity (4-14) will be at North Cedar (5-13) for the Class 1A Region 4 first round on Thursday. The winner of that game will play at No. 4 Springville (17-1) on February 17.
The rest of that bracket includes New London (0-20) at Lone Tree (14-6) and Notre Dame (2-16) at Wapello (11-9) in first-round games next Thursday. The winners of those two games will play February 17 at Lone Tree.
The other side of the bracket has Clayton Ridge at Central Elkader in the first round, with the winner playing at 15th-ranked Kee High in the quarterfinals. Prince of Peace plays at Easton Valley in the other first-round game, with the winner playing at Marquette Catholic in the quarterfinals.

Regional semifinals are on February 20, with the regional final on February 25.
Central Lee (9-10) will play at No. 9 Mediapolis in the Class 3A Region 6 quarterfinals on February 14. The winner of that game will play either Davis County (14-4) or Centerville (13-6) in the semifinals on February 18 at Mediapolis.
The other side of the bracket has No. 6 PCM (18-1) playing host to Saydel (3-15) and Clarke Community (3-16) at Creston (9-9) in the quarterfinals. The two winners play at PCM in the semifinals.
The regional final is February 21.
Pairings for Class 4A and 5A will be released February 12.
