Hounds second at Trojan Relays
FAIRFIELD – The Fort Madison Bloodhounds finished second at the Trojan Relays Tuesday night in the bowl at Fairfield.
The Hounds finished with 122 points behind host Fairfield’s 161. Central Lee also ran at the event and finished with 29 points for 9th place.
Julian Dear won the 100-meter dash in windy conditions with an 11.07 and anchored the 4x100 relay team which garnered 4th place with a 45.75. Kenden Bowie returned in the high jump clearing 6’6” for second place behind Fairfield’s Eli Zillman. Fort Madison’s Hunter Smrt was 3rd in the high jump clearing 6’0”.
Mason McLey won the open 400 with a 52.61. Riley Tripp was 4th at 55.03. Tripp won the 1600 meter run with a 4:47.44. Calvin Johnson was 5th at 5:12.79. Gavin Callahan was third in the 110 hurdles at 16.03.
Dayton Lamar won the long jump clearing 21’ for the first time all season. He jumped 21’0.5”. Nolan Guzman was sixth with an 18’11”. Caden Barnes broke 50’ again in the shotput with a strong 52’4”. Urijah Brooks was second with one of his best throws of the year at 48’1”. Brayton Schneider continues to have a strong season in the discus with a 143’1” to win that event. Noah Krogmeier was second in the 800 meters with a 1:59.68
For Central Lee, the 4x200 relay team of Brett Cook, Blake Davis, Luke Kruse, and Brayden Wyrick raced to a 3rd place finish with a 1:37.30. Cook had a 4th-place finish in the open 800 with a 2:09.25, just half a second out of the top three. Central Lee’s 4x100 team of Kruse, Evan Fogarty, Davis, and Brayden Wyrick at 46.95 took 5th. The Hawks set 17 personal records on the evening.
Holy Trinity boys down Notre Dame
BURLINGTON – Luke Hellige and Max Kruse both shot 43s to co-medal at Flint Hills Tuesday. The Crusaders downed the Nikes 179-184 in boys' action.
Adalyn Kruse shot a 51 to lead the HTC girls in a tight 220-218 loss to the Nikes. Kruse was runner-up medalist to Notre Dame’s Emerson Hopkins who shot a 47.
HTC got a 53 from Teagan Snaadt, 55 from Elizabeth Griffin, and a 61 from Eva Denning for the 120. Emma Mohrfeld and Calli Kruse each carded 65s.
For the boys, Blake Mohrfeld shot a 45 and Jameson Denning came in with a 48 for the Crusaders' 179. Nathan Box shot a 49 and Brock Scheetz shot a 51. Sam Yanker led Notre Dame with a 44. CJ Davis carded a 45.
The Crusaders host Danville today at Sheaffer Memorial.
Larson shoots even par at Deerwood
NEW LONDON – Central Lee’s Caleb Larson continues his strong season with an even par 36 at Deerwood Golf Course in New London.
Kaden Swan and Carter Jones both shot a 40, while Carson Morrison and Bo Herdrich each came in with 41s to round out the Hawks' scoring with a 157. There was no girls' play on Tuesday for Central Lee.
Central Lee boys move to 6-0
DANVILLE – The Central Lee Hawks stayed perfect on the year with a close 3-2 win over Danville Tuesday night on the road.
The Hawks got three goals in the first half after being down 1-0 early. Danville scored in the first five minutes, but then Mason Sanders responded unassisted about four minutes later. Peter Seyb scored on a double assist from Jaedin Oglesby and Colton Taft at 16:32 for a 2-1 lead. Three minutes before the half, Zach Estrada would put one in the net on a ball from Taft for a 3-1 lead.
Danville would score three minutes into the second half to set the final score. Max Jones had three saves in the keep for the Hawks.
Central Lee is 6-0 overall and 2-0 in SEI Super Conference action. They are off until next Tuesday when they host Wapello.
The Lady Hawks are 1-4-1 after going 1-2 last week with a win over Keokuk and shutout losses to Mid-Prairie and Washington. They also host Washington in a 5 p.m. game next Tuesday.
FM boys shut out by Burlington
FORT MADISON – The Hound boys' tennis team dropped all nine matches, two by forfeit, in a 0-9 loss to Burlington Tuesday in Fort Madison.
At No. 1 singles, Rowan Benda lost a close 6-8 match to the Grayhounds' Patrick Morgan, and Peyton Howard fell 5-8 at No. 3. James Janic lost 3-8 at No. 2 singles and Holden Fraise fell 2-8 to BHS’ Jack Drew. Elijah Broadhurst was shut out 0-8 at No. 5. The Hounds forfeited at No. 6 singles.
In doubles play, Benda and Howard lost 4-8 to Morgan and Will Woodard. Janic and Fraise lost 2-8 to Tomas Rascon and Drew. The No. 3 doubles was also forfeited by the Bloodhounds.
The Bloodhounds host Fairfield in a 4:30 match Monday.
