Hawks run away with titles at Keokuk Invite

Fort Madison finishes second in team scoring behind Central Lee.

KEOKUK – Lee County’s boys high school golf teams got an early season look Thursday at the Elks Country Club.
Central Lee proved to be about 30 strokes better than the rest as the Hawks walked away with the modified format team title.
Each team’s top two players played their own ball, while the nos. 3 and 4 played better ball and the 5th and 6th golfers played a scramble.
Central Lee’s Mylan Lowenberg shot a 76 over 18 holes to win medal play with Moravia’s  Logan Smith shooting a 78.
Then the Hawk’s Carson Morrison and Carter Jones carded a 74 in the Better-Ball format to edge Burlington Notre Dame’s Kaiden Dietzenbach and Mason Watkins with a 78.
Central Lee then got the trifecta winning the scramble contest with Bo Herdrich and Carver Hayes shooting a 70 to beat Notre Dame’s CJ Davis and Teague Havener.
The Hawks finished with a 304 points followed by Fort Madison with a 341 overall score. Holy Trinity Catholic finished 5th with 361 and Keokuk took 7th place with a 401.
Fort Madison was paced by Rowan Benda’s 80. Brady Wade shot an 86 both playing in the Medal round. Cole Quittem and Colton Boyer shot an 80 in the Better Ball round and Graeme Meredith and Conner Cale carded a 95 in the scramble for the Bloodhounds.
For the Crusaders, Max Kruse shot a 96 and Luke Hellige carded a 97 playing in the Medal Round. Brock Scheetz and Ameson Denning played a nice 83 in Better Ball play. Nathan Box and Blake Mohrfeld scored an 85 in the scramble.
