Hawks wrap season with loss to Mediapolis

Central Lee scores twice with running clock in 48-14 loss

MEDIAPOLIS -  Central Lee dropped its fourth football game in a row, all in district action, with a 48-14 loss to Mediapolis on the road.
The Hawks didn’t get onto the board until the fourth quarter with a running clock down 48-0.
Quarterback Kayden Calfee scored at the 7:33 mark in the final period on a 4-yard scamper with a 2-point conversion pass from Bo Herdrich to Cale Clark to make it 48-8.
Brett Cook would then pick off a pass in the final two minutes at the Bulldogs' 3-yard line and run it in for a 48-14 score. The 2-point conversion attempt failed.
Mediapolis scored six times in the first and second quarters, all on rushing touchdowns ranging from 2 yards to 71 yards, including four touchdowns in the second quarter. They scored a third-quarter touchdown on a 30-yard punt return.
Chase Johnson led the Hawks with 72 yards on 13 carries. Calfee had 68 yards on the ground on 17 carries. He was 1-5 through the air for 37 yards.
Herdrich led the Central Lee defense with nine tackles, two for loss.
The Hawks wrapped the season at 4-4, winning their first four games.
Calfee finished the season with 18-50 passing for 257 yards, two touchdowns, and four picks. He also had the top number on the ground with 671 yards on 113 carries for nine touchdowns. Ward Fraise was over 100 yards at 104. Johnson had the most carries at 119 for 635 yards and six scores.
Herdrich was the top receiver with 143 yards on just six catches and a touchdown. Kegan Damico and Max Jones also had receiving touchdowns.
Herdrich and Peter Seyb led the way on defense with 46.5 tackles and 45.5 respectively. Brett Cook had 33.5. Johnson had 29 tackles, Cale Clark had 27 stops, and Brayton Schneider had 26. Clark. Led the team with three sacks and six tackles for loss.
