Posted

FORT MADISON – The Fort Madison Bloodhounds needed a tiebreaker to overcome Washington in a dual Thursday night in Fort Madison.
The two squads battled to a 42-42 tie in early wrestling of a triangular with Mediapolis Thursday night. But with Washington forfeiting three matches, Fort Madison earned the win in a criteria tiebreaker. The Hounds sent wrestlers to the mat in every weight class, and won by forfeit at 126, 138, and 144.
The oddness continued in the match  with every single non-forfeited match being decided by a pin with Washington’s  Nate Edmonds recording the quickest pin of the night in :21 at 113 lbs.
Fort Madison got pins from James Fuller at 1:12 (120 lbs.), Aaron Boone 1:02 (132 lbs.), Rainer Johnson at 1:07 (150 lbs.), and Gavin Callahan 1:28 (175 lbs).  Aaron Warner needed to go into the 3rd period before getting a pin over Washington’s Rudy Wolfe at 5:02. Eight of the 10 matches saw pins in the first period in aggressive wrestling on both sides.

Breina Fenton pinned Nora Stoutner in less than a minute at 120 lbs. for the only two matches wrestled in the Lady Hounds' 66-0 win. Fort Madison won by forfeit in nine matches.
The girls didn’t wrestle any matches with Mediapolis and the boys surrendered just two falls against the Bulldogs with six matches forfeited by the visitors.
Mediapolis’ Taylan Miller got things going with a 1:39 pin at 126 lbs. over Fort Madison’s Cameron Maxon, but the Hounds won the next five matches, all by fall, highlighted by Tate Green’s 3rd period reversal pin over the Bulldogs’ Mason Johnson at 144 lbs. Noah Swigart (138), Johnson (150), and Beau Wagner (157) all had back-to-back pins.
Mepo’s Peyton Johnson scored a fall in the second period over Hadley Johnson, but Fort Madison then ripped off the next  seven matches, five by forfeit, to run away with the 72-12 dual win.
Fort Madison’s girls wrestle today at an invitational at Highland starting at 4 p.m. The boys also travel to Highland for the Gary Curtis Invitational starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.
