Hounds get first win

Fort Madison boys break winless streak with SEC win over Fairfield

FAIRFIELD – The Fort Madison Bloodhounds got their first win of the year on the road Friday night with a 62-52 win over Fairfield.
The Hounds trailed by four at the half but outscored the Trojans 36-22 in the second half behind Darius Foy’s 11 points.
Nolan Guzman scored 31 points, 16 in the first half, and hit 5 of 8 free throws down the stretch to help seal the win.
The Hounds caught Fairfield heading into the fourth quarter and then opened the frame with six points in the first minute and pulled away from there.
Fort Madison (1-10, 1-5) travels down the street to take on Holy Trinity Catholic Saturday evening at Shottenkirk Gym.

Lady Hounds 3rd at Mid-Prairie
MID-PRAIRIE – Fort Madison’s Lady Hounds took 3rd place in the final tournament leading up to regionals Jan 30 in Iowa City.
The Bloodhounds finished with 131 points behind Western Dubuque (209.5) and Iowa Valley (138).
Aubree Bunnell (28-8) won the title at 130 lbs taking down Bryleigh Sparks of Cardinal in the title match with a pin at 1:06 in the first period. Mara Smith continued her solid senior campaign with a title at 140. She went 4-0 on the evening and pinned Iowa City West’s Sylvia Broffitt in the first period for the title.
Fort Madison also got a title from Kat DiPrima who won her 100th career match Thursday night. DiPrima went 4-0 and pinned Washington’s Ryha Wellington scoring a pin half way through the third period.
Briena Fenton (22-9) took 2nd place and has been wrestling well of late. She lost to Eva Kriegel of Iowa Valley in the title match suffering a pin in the 1st period.

Central Lee girls slip at home
DONNELLSON – The Lady Hawks were a chilly 6-of-16 from the free throw line Friday night and it cost them in a 47-41 loss to Danville in SEISC girls basketball.
Central Lee trailed by 15 going into the final period and made a valiant run at the Bears including a 5-2 run in the final minute but came up short.
Kenna Sandoval led the Hawks with 12 points. Nora Lampe had 10 and Taylor Jones finished with seven for Central Lee (6-7, 6-4). Alaina Gourley led all scorers with 25 for Danville (7-5, 6-4).
The Lady Hawks travel to New London on Tuesday.

Central Lee boys get win
DONNELLSON – The Hawks got their fourth win in the last five games in Southeast Iowa Super Conference boys basketball action with a 55-41 win over Danville at home Friday night.
The Hawks held the Bears to just 18 first-half points and had four players in double figures with Kaden Swan and Carson Morrison leading the way with 11 each. Swan had nine in the second half.  Owen Swan and Will Hayes both had 10 in the win.
Dillan Mason had 13 to lead Danville. Swan, Hayes and Cook all had six rebounds for Central Lee.
The Hawks improve to 9-3 overall and 7-3 in the SEISC. Danville falls to 7-7 overall and 3-7 in the conference.
