WILLIAMSBURG – The Fort Madison Bloodhounds were a missed shot away from going 2-0 over the weekend.
Dayton Lamar’s shot in the waning moments at Williamsburg went awry as the Raiders knocked off the Bloodhounds 59-57 Saturday afternoon.
The Hounds rallied with 16 points in the final quarter and took a one-point lead on a Kenden Bowie 3-ball from the baseline corner with about two minutes left in the game, but couldn’t hold on. Fort Madison falls to 3-3 on the year with the non-Southeast Conference loss.
Fort Madison had some uncharacteristic loose defense in the first half, surrendering a 39-29 halftime lead. Some halftime adjustments paid off on the defensive side as Fort Madison allowed 20 points in the entire second half and just nine in the final period.
Nolan Guzman continues to lead the Bloodhounds on the offensive side of the floor. He had 23, including 9-of-11 shooting from the freethrow line. Julian Dear had 15 for Fort Madison and Dayton Lamar chipped in with nine points.
Williamsburg got 18 from Race Heitmann. The Raiders stand at 3-4 in the WaMaC-West Conference.
Fort Madison is off for the week and will begin a four-game home stand with Central Lee on Jan. 11 in the HoundDome.
