MOUNT PLEASANT – Riley Tripp ran one of his best times of the year just missing breaking the 17-minute mark in leading Fort Madison to the title at the Mt. Pleasant Invitational.
Tripp’s 17:02.47 was second best in the Class 3A/4A division behind Mt. Pleasant’s Silas Hulett who ran a 17:00.78, and sixth overall.
But the Hounds, who won the 3A/4A title with 26 points, then took the next two spots with Hunter Wiegand running a quick 17:05.91 and Mason McLey moving up with a 17:10.17. Nolan Guzman was fourth out of the Hounds' runners with a 17:47.71 good enough for 7th in the 3A/4A run and 16th overall. The other scoring runner for Fort Madison was Oliver Wiese at 18:38.
Avery and Addison Rump set the pace for the first-place Lady Hounds. Avery Rump finished runner-up with a nice 19:03.7 just 10 seconds off the pace set by Mt. Pleasant’s Avery Fedler. Addison Rump again broke the 20’ mark with a 19:51.7 for 3rd place in the 3A/4A division and 4th overall.
Mara Smith was third for the Lady Hounds with a 21:09 (5th/10th), McKayla Schinstock’s 21:48 (6th/12th) and Jordyn Marshall’s 21:53 (7th/13th) made up the Lady Hounds' 23 total team points.
Other runners for the girls included Ellie Hellman 22:08, Ellie Huebner 23:01, Eloise Lamb 23:03, and Abigail Ralph 23:50.
Other runners for the Hounds' boys included Jacob Walker 18:41 (29th), Logan McClure 19:04 (39th), Colton Tripp 19:05, Elie Brunault 19:49, Zachary Hermes 20:11, Jake Haessig 21:48, Kian Koering 23:17, Jackson Haessig 21:48, and Vance Schuessler 26:13.
Central Lee’s girls finished third with a total of 75 points. Mid Prairie won the girls' 1A/2A race with 24 points.
Aubree Bunnell ran a 21:57 good enough for sixth overall and sixth in the division. Macy Anderson finished in 7th in the division and 21st overall with a 22:34. The other three scoring runners were Afton Maynes 23:38 (13th/38th), Evelyn Adkins 25:14 (24th/58th), and Charlee Clay’s 25:35 (25th/60th).
Gabby Maynes ran a 25:56 and Saphire Cummings ran a 29:54.
Central Lee’s boys finished 6th in the 1A/2A race with 137 points. Caden Crozier led the Hawks with an 18:52 for 20th in the division and 31st overall. He edged Austin Fogarty’s 19:01 (24th/44th). The other scoring runners for Central Lee were Caedon Newton 19:10 (26th/70th), Orion St. Clair 19:41 (31st/101st), and Henry Robbins 20:10 (36th/137th). Kaidin Humes ran a 20:38 for the Hawks, while Jaedin Oglesby ran a 21:31 and Kyler Mulligan finished at 24:52.
Holy Trinity boys were also at Mt. Pleasant. The Crusaders finished 9th with 237 points led by Tanner Williams’ 47th-place finish with a time of 21:27. Chase Menke’s 23:57 was 54th in the 1A/2A run. Brayden Williams ran a 23:59, Jacob Baker finished at 26;21, and Alex Scheetz finished at 26:47.
