MEDIAPOLIS – The 6th-ranked Holy Trinity Catholic boys' basketball team pulled away from Mediapolis in the second half to move to 7-1 on the year and keep a hold on 2nd place in the SEI Superconference South Division.
The Crusaders held just a 3-point lead going into the break, but rallied for a 65-54 win over the Bulldogs behind Luke Hellige’s 23 points.
Hellige went six-for-six from the freethrow line in the second half and Koby Jones put up 10 points in the second half to help the Crusaders pull away.
The two teams were tied at 14 going into the second quarter and Mediapolis held a one-point lead with two minutes remaining in the half at 28-27. HTC would go on a short 4-0 run to end the period and grab a 31-28 lead at the break.
A 9-3 run midway through the third period put some distance between the two and the Crusaders pushed the lead to double digits several times before securing the win.
Jones and Sobczak were also in double digits in scoring for HTC with 16 and 10, respectively. Layne Rung had nine and Nathan Box chipped in with five points in the win.
The Crusaders stand at 7-1 on the year and travel to Central Lee on Friday night in a boys/girls doubleheader. Mediapolis falls to 7-3 on the season and 4-3 in the SEISC-South.
