Betty Jo (McCoy) Miller, 79, passed away Friday April 11, 2025 at her home in Fort Madison, IA. Betty was born to Walter and Bessie (Lowe) McCoy on January 4, 1946 in Kirkwood, MO. She was the youngest girl and the second to youngest of her siblings who all preceded her in death. She was the first to leave for an event but the last of the 11 siblings to leave this earth.
Betty Jo is survived by her husband of nearly 58 years, Roger Miller. The two met in 1967 and were married on November 25, 1967 in Ft. Madison. Betty predominantly worked as a nurse’s aide for Mobile Nursing.
Betty was a free spirit. Rarely sitting still, unless she was at the slot machine, she would flutter in and occasionally participate in whatever game you were playing. When she was done eating, you were likely to be done too because she was quick to gather up the plates. She was busy but not a busy body. Betty was an avid reader and enjoyed collecting chicken and rooster figurines, doing crosswords and playing scrabble.
She was known to say anything that was on her mind with very little filter, but that meant you knew what you were to her. When she decided to love you, she loved you. She meant what she said and she said what she meant.
Betty enjoyed being acknowledged on her birthday and basically any other day. She appreciated receiving gifts and had no issue about jokingly asking you for gambling money. This all made her laugh, which she did often. Betty would tell you exactly what she wanted, and one of those biggest requests was for grandchildren. Becoming a Grandma was one of her greatest joys.
Survivors include her husband, Roger Miller of Ft. Madison; a son, Matthew Miller of Ft. Madison, a daughter, Mona (Shay) Miller of Herrin, IL; two grandchildren, Natasha Miller and Spencer Crotser; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
There will be a private family viewing, Monday, April 14, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Betty requested to be cremated and interment to happen with her husband. Online condolences to the Miller family may be left at the King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory website: www.kinglynk.com. The family has requested no flowers.
