Brenda Ann Bernhardt, 57, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 3:23 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN. She was born on July 22, 1969 in Fort Madison, IA to Larry & Julie Brown Hemmie. She married Mark E. Bernhardt on April 20, 1991 in Fort Madison, IA. She was a hard worker and worked many jobs over the years, including G.E. in Burlington for 26 years and lastly at Con-Agra in Fort Madison. She and Mark served as board members for the LaMoine Valley ABATE for 12 years. Mostly, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Brenda is survived by: her husband: Mark Bernhardt of Fort Madison, IA; 2-sons: Wesley (Haley) Bernhardt of Grand Marais, MN & Jacob Bernhardt of Burlington, IA; 1-daughter: Sarah (Kyle Schmitt) Bernhardt of Fort Madison, IA; 2-grandchildren: Devyn Bernhardt-Hocker & Keziah Bernhardt; her mother: Julie Hemie of Fort Madison, IA & 1-brother: Steve (Denise) Hemmie of Denmark, IA. She was preceded in death by her father.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. She will be cremated following the visitation. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2026 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Steve Scott officiating.
