Jacqueline L. Hnat, 88, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 2:20 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at the West Point Care Center. She was born on January 21, 1938 in Fort Madison, IA to William & Georgia Bernhardt Berger. She married Hilbert Galland and they later divorced. She married Joseph R. Hnat on April 12, 1976 in Carthage, IL. He preceded her in death on September 21, 2018. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, reading, playing cards, word finds and watching the wildlife in her yard. She read The Word every day. Her greatest love was spending time with her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren.
She is survived by: 2-daughters: Joyce Miller & Jill Hnat of Fort Madison, IA; 1-step son: Tim (Martha) Hnat of Arlington, TX; 1-step daughter: Clara Hnat of Fort Madison, IA; 4-grandchildren: Wylie (Susan) Hnat, Kelly (Brian) Nelton, Matthew (Amanda) Miller & Erica Cowles; 8-great grandchildren and her very dear friend: Bev Kendall of Fort Madison, IA. She was preceded in death by: her parents, 1-daughter: Judith Galland, 1-step son: Jody Hnat, 2-granddaughters: Dallas Hnat & Erin Cowles, 2-brothers & 3-sisters.
