WEST LIBERTY – The Central Lee Hawks' volleyball season came to an end in the first round of Class 3A Region 8 action at West Liberty.
The Lady Hawks fell 25-22, 25-19, 25-17 to finish the year 16-16 overall. They wrapped up Southeast Iowa Superconference with a 2-5 record for a sixth-place finish.
“The girls came out strong tonight. We were getting touches on their attacks and were communicating better on the court,” said head coach Amy Cook.
“We had a lead in the first set and just were unable to finish. Unfortunately, we started to struggle with West Liberty's quick offense in the second set. We did come back but it was just too late.  When we ran a faster offense, they struggled to defend the ball. We just couldn't keep that momentum going in order to finish.”
Junior Taylor Jones again led the attack from her middle hitter spot with a dozen kills on 34 attacks with six errors. She also had three solo blocks. Kylie Fortune, in her final year, had eight kills on 19 attempts with no errors.

Ellie Lake and Jalyn Hawk were both nine of nine serving with one ace apiece.
“Overall, I feel like we had a great year. I am really proud of what our team has accomplished. We have seven seniors that have shown outstanding leadership on and off the court. Their impact will be felt long after the season ends. I feel this particular team has experienced a lot of growth together. We will continue to carry that into the future and will continue to develop as a team next year,” Cook said.
Jones finished the year with 233 kills on 682 attempts with 94 errors for a 20% hitting efficiency. Lampe was second on the team in attacks with 145 kills on 465 attempts and 83 errors for a 13% efficiency. Fortune was 116 of 372 with 49 errors for an 18% clip.
Mueller led the team in digs with 489 from her libero spot. Lake had 221 on the year, Sandoval had 216, and Lampe finished with 186. Sandoval was the top setter for the squad and is setting up a solid senior year. Sandoval finished with 450 assists and Lake was second on the squad with 165.
