DONNELLSON -The Central Lee Lady Hawks swept Keokuk Thursday night at Central Lee High School in area girls' volleyball action.
The Hawks won 25-11, 27-25, 25-21 to move to 5-4 on the year with Southeast Iowa Super Conference South action starting Tuesday at Mediapolis.
"We did some reflecting after our last tournament and learned a lot about our needs for our team," said Head Coach Amy Cook.
"Tonight, the girls came together, created their own energy, and really improved their communication. We did fall into our usual second-game slump, however I was proud of how they stayed steady, focused, and battled back from quite a deficit. Our passing improved overall, which allowed us to move the ball around more effectively."
Senior Taylor Jones led at the net with 15 kills and a couple blocks. Kenna Sandoval had 33 assists and 14 digs for the Hawks. Brylee Cook recorded a dozen kills and Jayden Mueller led the squad defensively with 36 digs. She was also a perfect 14-14 serving with an ace.
Nora Lampe had 10 kills and Chloee Haigh had six kills in the win.
Amy Cook gave credit to Kaylee Moeller for stepping into the rotation for Maggie Mullins who was sidelined with an injury.
"Kaylee Moeller stepped in for the injured Maggie Mullins and did a great job playing calm and confident," Cook said.
"Our outsides, Brylee Cook and Nora Lampe, both had strong nights connecting well with our setter, Kenna. Defensively, Jayden Mueller and Macie Doty came up with some great digs that kept us in key rallies. Overall, it was a strong team win that showed our growth and resilience."
