WASHINGTON – The Fort Madison girls ran to a 3rd place finish at the Washington Demon Relays Thursday night.
The Lady Hounds finished with 91 points behind Mt. Pleasant (121.3) and host winners Washington 151.
Senior Brylie Lorence, who has been tearing it up in the shotput for the Hounds, recorded a personal best 120’7” in the discus good enough for 1st place a full 19’ ahead of the pack. Lorence finished second in the shot with a throw of 40’3” behind Burlington’s Kylee Hill.
Avery Rump is getting warmed up as the season goes along and ran a sub 11 3000 meters at 10:58.57 ahead of teammate Jordyn Marshall who was second at 11:49.79. Rump also finished second in the 1500 at 5:18.13, 12 seconds in front of sister Addison Rump for 2nd and 3rd.
The girls 4x800 relay of McKayla Schinstock, Addison Rump, Mara Smith and Avery Rump took first with a 10:17.81. Smith had a strong open 800 with a 2:35.01 finishing fourth.
The 4x400 relay of Schinstock, Esther Gnann, Ellie Huebner and Smith took 2nd behind Washington. The Sprint Medley team of Lillian Gelsthorpe, Olivia Buckner, Mia Mason and Smith took 3rd overall with a 2:01.58. Schinstock captured 3rd in the open 400 with a 1:05.24.
The 4x100 relay team of Lyla Smith, Alexa Walz, Maleena Bentley and Alaina Schwerin took 4th in the shuttle hurdle relay.
The boys squad captured 5th place with 69 points.
The Hounds again were led by senior Julian Dear who ran another sub 11 100 at 10.98.
Dear also ran the first leg of the boys Fort Madison title Distance Medley team with Dayton Lamar, Peyton Lambert and Nolan Guzman. The foursome ran a 3:39.49, eight seconds ahead of the pack.
Mason McLey ran a very strong 52.90 in the 400 to take the title. Henry Ireland ran a nice 54.73 for 3rd in the open 400.
Nolan Guzman and Noah Krogmeier ran a 5th and 6th in the open 800 with a 2:09.95 and 2:16.13. Riley Tripp had a 4:45.83 in the open 1600 for 3rd place.
The 4x100 relay of Lambert, Lamar, Guzman and Dear finished 4th with a 44.97.
In the field events, senior Brayton Scheider spun a 158.01 in the discus good enough for 2nd place. Urijah Brooks threw the shot 49’8” for 3rd and Hunter Smrt jumped to a 5th-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 5’8”.
