Lady Hounds 7th at Highland Invite

RIVERSIDE – The Fort Madison Lady Hounds finished 7th at Saturday’s Highland Invitational in Riverside.
Mara Smith and Kat DiPrima both captured 2nd place in their respective divisions to lead Fort Madison to 101 points as a team.
DiPrima, 23-4 on the year, went 3-1 on the day, falling in the title match to Pekin’s Hailey Pedrick by pin in the second period at 145 lbs. She had two pins in early wrestling, both in the first period, and then won a 10-7 decision over Iowa City Liberty’s Callum Wu to get to the title match.
Smith, 25-2 wrestling at 140 lbs., had a quicker path with three straight pins in early wrestling, all in less than a minute. Her 29-second pin of Van Buren County’s Lexie Wiley put her in the title match against Evelyn Eggleston of Liberty who secured the fall at 3:41 in the second period, giving Smith the runner up title.
Other top five finishers for the Lady Hounds included Aubree Bunnell (22-8) who took 3rd place with a nice win over Wilton’s Josslyn Holladay (24-8) with a pin in the second period. Bunnell went 3-1 on the day, losing in the semifinals to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont’s Georgia Smith (29-2).
Lucie Zimmerman at 100 lbs. (4th place). Zimmerman went 2-2 on the day losing in a tech fall to Elle McGonegle of Liberty, who won the event with 242.5 points. Briena Fenton (17-8) also placed 4th wrestling at 125 lbs. Fenton went 2-2 on the day falling in the semis to Lila Miller of Pekin by fall in the 1st period and then losing an 18-2 decision to Kaitlyn Raue of Liberty in the match for 3rd.

Grayhounds drop Lady Hounds in Tuesday dual.
BURLINGTON – Eloise Lamb, Briena Fenton, Aubree Bunnell, McKayla Schinstock, Mara Smith, and Kat DiPrima all recorded wins in a 48-35 loss to Burlington in Southeast Conference girls wrestling Tuesday at BHS.
All Fort Madison’s win were by pinfall with the exception of Smith who recorded a 21-5 technical fall over Mia Oddo.. They surrendered forfeits at 100 lbs, 105 lbs and 235 lbs.
