Lady Hounds 9th at Vinton-Shellsburg

Smith moves to 20-1 with title at 135.

VINTON – All eight of the Fort Madison Lady Hounds wrestlers placed at Saturday’s Vinton-Shellsburg Invitational as Fort Madison finished in ninth place overall with 103 points.
Senior Mara Smith again went through her bracket unscathed as she won the title at 135 pounds.
Smith received a first-round bye and then pinned Waterloo West’s Ty’Onna Scott at 2:14. She then made quick work of East Buchanan’s Kara Knipper in just 32 seconds putting her into the finals against V-S’s Dakota Hatchel at 2:39. Smith is now 20-1 on the year.
Kat Diprima (18-3) finished 3rd at 145 lbs. going 4-1 on the day with her only loss to East Buchanan’s Tayla Stiefel by fall in the second period in the semifinals. That loss moved her to the 3rd-place match where she pinned Sigourney-Keota’s Izzy Heisdorffer half way through the first period.

Breina Fenton and Aubree Bunnell both earned fourth-place finishes. Fenton went 3-2 on the day at 125 lbs. She was knocked out of the semis when she fell to Sigourney-Keota’s Kia Montgomery putting her into the consolation semis where she downed Iowa Valley’s Eva Kriegel and then fell in the 3rd place wrestleback.
Bunnell also went 3-2 on the day with a loss in the semis pushing her to the consolation bracket where she got a win before falling in the 3rd place wrestleback to Independence’s Kennedi Bevans by technical fall.
Macyn Lampe (110 lbs.), Eloise Lamb (115 lbs.) and Lyla Smith (140 lbs) all had sixth-place finishes. Nora Kelley earned a 7th place finish at 120 lbs.
The ladies open Southeast Conference wrestling Thursday when they host Mt. Pleasant in a dual meet at the Hound Dome in Fort Madison.
