FORT MADISON - Fort Madison’s girls soccer team heads into its first big week of Southeast Conference play undefeated and with plenty of momentum after Friday’s 10-0 win over Notre Dame-West Burlington at the Baxter Sports Complex.
It was a match coach Carrie Burken has been wanting from her team.
“I just think we played a complete game,” Burken said. “I don't think we've really necessarily done that yet this season.”
The Bloodhounds (3-0-1) topped the Nikes (1-4) for the first time in program history — ND-WB had won the previous six matchups — with a consistent pressure that has been a trademark of all of their wins this season.
What Burken liked, though, was how every piece of the Bloodhounds’ attack worked.
“I thought we had really good patience on offense and finding good passes and good opportunities,” she said. “I really liked the distribution from our defense to our midfield and then our midfield to our offense. I thought our defense did a really, really good job connecting passes, stopping Notre Dame's attack. All of our (midfielders) did great things, but Halle (Menke) really controlled the midfield again, and when she does that, great things happen. I thought Teagan (Snaadt) and Hadley (Wolfe) did a good job coming back into the midfield, receiving balls to connect passes. I thought our outside mids did a great job of connecting with our defense to get balls up the sideline, to cross in, and then we were able to finish more at this game than yesterday.
“So yeah, overall, it was just a complete game.”
The Bloodhounds struck early — Emma Snaadt scored four minutes into the match for their first goal, then Wolfe scored 90 seconds later.

Teagan Snaadt, who had four goals in the match, scored twice in the final 11 ½ minutes of the half to give Fort Madison a 4-0 halftime lead.
Reilynn Turnbull got the Bloodhounds going in the second half with a goal 26 seconds in, then Teagan Snaadt and Kara Lake scored within a 28-second span for a 7-0 lead.
Chloe Butler’s goal with 22:39 to play increased the margin to 8-0. Teagan Snaadt and Emma Snaadt then closed out the match with their final goals of the night.
“I think it builds confidence to play a game like this,” Burken said. “We've actually never beat Notre Dame before in program history. So that's nice. I don't think they know that, but I know that. And so that's nice. I think it just builds confidence for us.”
Teagan Snaadt had three assists, Menke and Wolfe each had two, and Lake and Turnbull each had one.
Burken was able to use most of her roster, which is important as the Bloodhounds head into the bulk of the conference schedule. They play Monday at Fairfield, then get defending conference champion Burlington at home on Thursday.
“We're trying to get those younger players in, because we want them to build confidence, and we want them to build experience,” Burken said “And so sometimes it's tough when you are an experienced player and you just want to be in and playing and scoring goals.
“I think the older players do such a good job of being understanding, and I really appreciate the support and leadership that they bring and just helping instruct younger players and giving them encouragement and things like that. So I really love our team chemistry. I think it helps us a lot when it comes to being successful in the field.”
