KEOKUK – The Fort Madison Lady Hounds rolled Keokuk 16-4 in just four innings Thursday night behind senior Brylie Lorence’s five-RBI night.
The senior homered, her sixth of the year, in the top of the first with no outs on a line drive to left scoring Jordyn Marshall and Olivia Buckner. In the top of the second Fort Madison scored six runs all with two outs on five straight hits as the bats stayed hot after a three-day break. The Hounds were rained out Tuesday night.
Fort Madison would add another seven runs in the top of the fourth keyed by Marshall’s 3-run double to center.
Emma Snaadt got the win going all four innings surrendering four runs on four hits while fanning two and walking three. Lorence, Marshall, Kylie Lumino, Ava Fuget, Laci Gathers and Ava Taylor all had multi-hit games for the Lady Hounds who are currently third in the Southeast Conference at 5-4 (7-7 overall). They are off until Monday when they travel to Fairfield for a doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m.
Central Lee boys get home win
DONNELLSON – The Central Lee Hawks got 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to set the 10-run rule on Highland to move to 11-2 on the season.
Senior Bo Herdrich went 2-of-3 at the plate with three RBI including a solo home run to kick-start the sixth inning and lead the Hawks.
Kayden Calfee hit a three-run double to deep center in the sixth inning with one out scoring Preston Hetrick, Blake Davis, and Mason Sanders. A Hunter Edlin single scoring Kegan Damico ended the game.
The Hawks used a litany of pitchers including Kellen Weber, Sanders, Herdrich and Edlin. Herdrich got the win coming on in the sixth for an inning of work. He gave up one run on no hits while striking out one. Weber went two innings allowing two hits and no runs. Sanders also threw a couple innings allowing a run on one hit while fanning five and walking four. Edlin went an inning allowing two runs on two hits. He struck out two and walked two.
The Hawks take on Class 2A No. 6 Mediapolis (9-0, 17-1) on the road in a SEI Super Conference south matchup Friday night. The two stand 1 and 2 in the confererence South Division.
Post season pairings were released Thursday and the Hawks get a bye in the first round of Class 2A Substate 5 action. They will play the winner of Wilton/W-MU on July 8 at Chariton Middle School.
Day homers to lead Lady Hawks
DONNELLSON – Olivia Day drove in five runs on three hits to lead No. 14 Central Lee to a 12-5 win over Highland at home Friday night. The Lady Hawks move to 16-3 with the win.
Central Lee stands atop the SEI Super Conference at 8-0 with a 16-3 overall record.
