Lady Hounds roll behind Lorence's sixth homer

KEOKUK – The Fort Madison Lady Hounds rolled Keokuk 16-4 in just four innings Thursday night behind senior Brylie Lorence’s five-RBI night.
The senior homered, her sixth of the year, in the top of the first with no outs on a line drive to left scoring Jordyn Marshall and Olivia Buckner. In the top of the second Fort Madison scored six runs all with two outs on five straight hits as the bats stayed hot after a three-day break. The Hounds were rained out Tuesday night.
Fort Madison would add another seven runs in the top of the fourth keyed by Marshall’s 3-run double to center.
Emma Snaadt got the win going all four innings surrendering four runs on four hits while fanning two and walking three. Lorence, Marshall, Kylie Lumino, Ava Fuget, Laci Gathers and Ava Taylor all had multi-hit games for the Lady Hounds who are currently third in the Southeast Conference at 5-4 (7-7 overall). They are off until Monday when they travel to Fairfield for a doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m.

Central Lee boys get home win
DONNELLSON – The Central Lee Hawks got 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to set the 10-run rule on Highland to move to 11-2 on the season.
Senior Bo Herdrich went 2-of-3 at the plate with three RBI including a solo home run to kick-start the sixth inning and lead the Hawks.
Kayden Calfee hit a three-run double to deep center in the sixth inning with one out scoring Preston Hetrick, Blake Davis, and Mason Sanders. A Hunter Edlin single scoring Kegan Damico ended the game.
The Hawks used a litany of pitchers including Kellen Weber, Sanders, Herdrich and Edlin. Herdrich got the win coming on in the sixth for an inning of work. He gave up one run on no hits while striking out one. Weber went two innings allowing two hits and no runs. Sanders also threw a couple innings allowing a run on one hit while fanning five and walking four. Edlin went an inning allowing two runs on two hits. He struck out two and walked two.
The Hawks take on Class 2A No. 6 Mediapolis (9-0, 17-1) on the road in a SEI Super Conference south matchup Friday night. The two stand 1 and 2 in the confererence South Division.
Post season pairings were released Thursday and the Hawks get a bye in the first round of Class 2A Substate 5 action. They will play the winner of Wilton/W-MU on July 8 at Chariton Middle School.

Day homers to lead Lady Hawks
DONNELLSON – Olivia Day drove in five runs on three hits to lead No. 14 Central Lee to a 12-5 win over Highland at home Friday night. The Lady Hawks move to 16-3 with the win.
Central Lee stands atop the SEI Super Conference at 8-0 with a 16-3 overall record.

Day went 3-for-4 at the plate with five RBI and a run scored. Her two-out bomb to left scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to give Central Lee an early 4-2 lead.
Highland would regain the lead in the top of the third on a one-out homer to left, but Hayden  Rule would double to right with two outs in the bottom half to tie things up at 5 and then Day came through again with what would be the game-winner on an RBI double to center.
Central Lee would score four more in the fourth and then add two in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach. Rule was 2-2 on the day with two RBI. Jaci Hawk, Kenna Sandoval, Marie Young, Jalyn Hawk and Aubree Bunnell all had hits in the win.
The Lady Hawks travel to Mediapolis (8-2, 10-6) in a key SEISC game Friday night.

Holy Trinity splits with WB-ND Thursday.
WEST BURLINGTON – A walk-off home run by the Falcons’ Lindsey Kelley kept Holy Trinity Catholic from sweeping West Burlington-Notre Dame Thursday night at Barb Carter Field.
A seven-run second inning gave the Falcons a 7-2 early lead, but the Crusaders battled back in the opener with three runs in the third and two more in the fourth while Sydney Jarvis settled down in the circle.
McKayla Simpson’s bomb to center gave the Crusaders a one-run lead in top of the sixth on the first pitch of the inning. Jarvis got out of the bottom half unscathed. HTC went 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh. The Falcon’s Madelyn Thomas then doubled with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Jarvis got the next hitter on strikes for the second out, but Kelley then sent one over the centerfield fence for the game-winner.
The Crusaders rolled in the nightcap 10-2 marking their first ever win over the Falcons. Seven HTC batters recorded hits in the win. Alivia Holmes, Simpson, and Jarvis all had multi-hit games.  Kenna Gittings added a three run triple. Jarvis and Kat DiPrima each scored two runs in the win.
The Crusaders (5-5, 13-7) are off until Tuesday when Van Buren County comes to South Park for a single game starting at 7:30 p.m.

Potratz named next Keokuk boys head basketball coach
KEOKUK - Keokuk High School announced that Anthony Potratz has been hired as the new Head Boys Basketball
Potratz is a former Keokuk High School basketball standout. During his playing days, he was known for his leadership, hard work, and dedication to the program. His accomplishments on the court helped set a strong foundation for Keokuk basketball, and he remains one of the most respected players to come through the program.
Potratz will begin his duties right away.
