Lady Hounds set three records at White Relays

MT. PLEASANT – The Fort Madison boys and girls both captured 3rd place at the Denny White Relays on a cold and windy Thursday at the MapleLeaf Athletic Complex.
The Bloodhound boys captured 123 points to finish behind Mediapolis with 173.5 and Clear Creek-Amana with a team-high 187 points. The Lady Hounds finished with 75 points behind CC-A’s 146 and Mt. Pleasant’s 161 points.
Central Lee’s boys finished 9th overall with 71 points running in the B Division, while the Lady Hawks finished 8th in the girls' open with 14 points.
The Lady Hounds set two meet records and Brylie Lorence tied a third to lead Fort Madison. Head Coach Brian Mendez continues to tinker with the 4x800 relay team and may have come up with the combination with Mara Smith, McKayla Schinstock, Addison Rump, and Avery Rump running to a 10:28.29 first-place finish. Avery Rump set another mark in the 800 meter run with a 2:29.91 beating the previous meet best by 2.6 seconds. Lorence’s 116’4” discus spin tied the White Relays record, but finished 2nd behind Mt. Pleasant’s Savannah Slobodnik who heaved a 118’7” throw to win the event.
The Fort Madison boys continue to show dominance in the sprint, sprint relays, and hurdles. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Adam Sobczak, Kiawante Smith, Gavin Callahan, and Henry Wiseman ran a speedy 1:02.04 to take first place. Sobczak also had the opening leg of the 4x100 relay with Dayton Lamar, Hayden Segoviano, and Julian Dear at 44.93 for first place.
Other first-place finishes for the Hound boys include the 4x800-meter relay team of Peyton Lambert, Riley Tripp, Mason McLey, and Nolan Guzman at 8:51.67, and the 4x200-meter relay squad of Segoviano, Dear, Lamar, and Smith at 1:35.16.
Henry Wiseman is regaining solid form after suffering a knee injury in the fall and took first in the 110 hurdles at 15.41.
Central Lee’s Evan Fogarty captured a first-place finish for the Hawks in the 100-meter dash B Division in 11.8. Brandon Klein got a first-place in the wheelchair shot at 16’1”.
