Newton shatters 26-year Hawk mark

Central Lee fresihman goes sub-17 at Mediapolis Invitational: Bunnell breaks her mark again.

MEDIAPOLIS – Drake Newton and Aubree Bunnell continue to shatter record books at Central Lee.
The two set new school records at Thursday’s Mediapolis Invitational with Bunnell seemingly breaking her own record week over week. Newton smashed his season goal of going sub-17 and broke Matt Lamb’s 26-year-old mark with a 16:49.3. The freshman is quickly positioning himself for a nice box at the state cross country meet later this month in Fort Dodge.
Bunnell is also on pace for a return trip to Kennedy Park and both girls and boys teams will have interesting district meets coming up next week. She ran a school best 20:17.5 to lead the Lady Hawks to a 1st place in team scoring. Her time was second best at Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Wapello. Mt. Pleasant’s Avery Fedler won the event at 19:18.6
Savannah Overton was eighth overall with a 21:55.9 followed by Addalie Daly in at 22:44.4 for 13th in team scoring.  Macy Anderson was right behind at 23:03.4 for 15th and McKenna Fransk rounded out the scoring runners for the Hawks at 24:46.9 good for 28th. The Hawks had 66 points for the title. WB/ND had 84 and Fort Madison’s girls finished 3rd with 90 points led by Jordyn Marshall’s 7th place finish at 21:52.2.
Other scoring runners for the Lady Hounds included Kaitlyn Marshall and Addison Pezley who came in at 11th and 12th at  22:33.9 and 22:36.7. Eloise Lamb was 23rd in team scoring at 23:56.7. Ellie Hellman was the final top five for the Bloodhounds with a 25:23.8.

In the boys run, Newton led the way in the Hawks 4th place finish. The Hawks had 116 points. Caedon Newton was 23rd overall, followed by Caden Crozier (27), Austin Fogarty (31), and Orion St. Clair (32). Caedon Newton finished at 18:31.8, Crozier at 18:38.7, Fogarty at 18:54.0; and St. Clair at 18:55.3.
Hunter Weigand finished behind Drake Newton in 4th overall and  inteam scoring, also breaking the 17-minute barrier at 16:59 to lead the Bloodhound boys to a runner up finish behind WB/ND. The Falcons had 57 points. Fort Madison finished with 102, Mediapolis was third at 106, and the Hawks were 116.
Other scoring runners for the Hounds were Oliver Wiese, who almost broke into the top 10 with an 11th place finish at 17:52.7. Colton Tripp was 19th in team scoring at 18:24.9. Jacob Walker was 33rd at 18:59.3, and Zach Hermes was 35th to round out the top five for Fort Madison at 19:06.9.
Jack Ragar led Holy Trinity to a 13th place finish with his 20:32.7. Tanner Williams was next in for the Crusaders at 20:36.7. Jay Ellison was next at 23.40.1 followed by Brayden Williams’ 24:29.4 and Brody Boylan’s 24:33.2
