No. 8 Golden Hawks shut out Central Lee

Hawks manage 190 yards on the ground in loss

DONNELLSON – The Central Lee Hawks ran up against one of the better teams in the state Friday night, dropping a 56-0 decision to Mid-Prairie.
The Class 2A, 8th-ranked Golden Hawks scored early on a 16-yard touchdown run with 8:03 left in the first quarter.
And then they scored often with four more TDs in the second quarter, including a 40-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown, to lead 35-0 at the half.
Mid-Prairie would add another couple scores in the third quarter with the first  passing touchdown coming with 4 minutes left on a 29-yard scoring strike.  A 6-yard scoring run capped the scoring with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
The Hawks racked up 190 yards in total offense, all on the ground, with senior Peter Seyb leading the way with 71 yards on 16 carries for a respectable 4.4 yards per carry average. Junior quarterback Brett Cook rushed for 34 yards and junior Connor Boyd had 33 yards on four carries. The Hawks didn’t complete a pass in the game.
Cook led the Hawks with eight of the team's 31 tackles. Max Jones had four and Ward Fraise had three stops.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in the Class 2A, District 6. They travel to Wilton next Friday for a junior varsity/varsity doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
