FORT MADISON - A house fire in the 2000 block of Avenue E overnight resulted in heavy damage to the kitchen and bedrooms areas.
According to a press release from Fort Madison Fire Chief Joey Herren, the fire broke out at about 1:36 a.m and had firefighters on the scene for two hours.
All occupants in the home were out of the home when firefighters arrived at the scene. One occupant had a minor injury.
There was extensive damage done to the kitchen and one bedroom and the rest of the home sustained heavy smoke damage.
The fire is still under investigation, but Herren said damage is estimated at $25,000 on the structure and somewhere in the range of $5,000 to $10,000 on the contents.
He said the point of origin was in the bedroom, but no cause has been identified as of Monday afternoon. The Red Cross has helped the family find temporary accommodations.
