Arnold F. “Arnie” Means, 86, of Nauvoo, Illinois, passed away at 8:45 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy with his family by his side.
He was born on July 4, 1938, in Macon, Missouri, the son of George R. and Frances E. (Thomas) Means. On December 23, 1956 he married Marcia Parker at the Nauvoo Presbyterian Church.
Arnie is survived by his wife: Marcia; son: Randy (Rhonda) Means of Spring Hill, Kansas; two daughters: Shelley Means of Olathe, Kansas and Tara (Dave) Sturgeon of Olathe, Kansas; one great grandson: Andrew; and two sisters: Martha Kidwell and Georgia Lee Burkhart. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Gwendell and James; and sister: Loretta.
Arnie was a 1956 graduate of Nauvoo High School, a United States Air Force veteran, worked for Santa Fe, and retired from Amtrak. He was a member of the Chesterfield Presbyterian Church and was a forty-second degree Mason.
Arnie enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, old cars, tractors, Florida beaches, drinking coffee, and eating vanilla covered strawberries.
His body has be entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz - Banks & Beals Funeral Home.
Burial will be at a later date at the Nauvoo City Cemetery in Nauvoo.
A memorial has been established in his memory for the Nauvoo Fire and Rescue.
