PELLA - The Class 1A No. 2 Crusaders ran into some stiff competition, but a nice post-season tuner-up Saturday at the Pella Invitational.
HTC went 1-4 on the day with losses to Washington (16-21, 15-21), Class 5A, No. 7 West Des Moines Valley (7-21, 5-21), Class 4A No. 3 Pella (10-21, 14-21) and Knoxville (19-21, 18-21). They recorded a win over Grinnell 21-16, 21-18 .
Adalyn Kruse led the Crusaders at the net with 31 kills on 83 attacks. Presley Myers was 47-57 attacking with 21 kills. Olivia Bendlage had 32 digs and Kruse added 31. Callie Kruse went 29-30 serving with three aces on the day.
Holy Trinity wraps up the regular season Thursday at the Mediapolis Invitational with Fort Madison, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, and host Mepo.
BLOOMFIELD - Central Lee went 2-3 at the Davis County Tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Hawks, playing without senior setter Kenna Sandoval, lost to West Burlington (5-21, 8-21), Van Buren (16-21, 14-21), and Chariton (15-21, 13-21).
The two wins came over Davis County (21-14, 23-25, 17-15) and Centerville (21-17, 21-18).
“We were without our primary setter, Kenna (Sandoval), but our freshman setters, Brylee (Cook) and Kinley (Kaiser) really stepped up and did a great job running the offense,” said Head Coach Amy Cook. “Overall, I thought the team played pretty well given the circumstances. The girls showed a lot of resilience and worked hard throughout the day.”
Taylor Jones led the attacking with 20 kills and nine blocks. She also had eight digs. Cook had 38 assists on the day and Kaiser had 20. Jayden Mueller had 46 digs from her libero spot. Chloe Haigh recorded 18 kills and Nora Lampe had 16 kills. Macy Doty had 34 digs on the day.
Lady Hounds down Chiefs in SEC finals
KEOKUK – The Fort Madison volleyball team dropped two matches Monday night to Mt. Pleasant and Fairfield, before knocking off Keokuk to end Monday’s Southeast Conference tournament second day on an up note.
The Hounds fell to Mt. Pleasant in two sets and then went into a tiebreaker with Fairfied before falling 1-2. The win over Keokuk also required a tiebreaker but this time the Hounds came out on top 2-1.
Dayonna Davis had 34 kills, 28 digs, and three aces to lead Fort Madison. Jayce Fullenkamp finished with 22 kills, 14 digs, and four aces. Jordyn Grisham ran the offense from the middle with 73 assists and helped with 14 digs. Kylie Lumino served 16-of-17 and had 30 kills.
FMMS boys get win over Keokuk
FORT MADISON - The Little Hounds shut out Keokuk Tuesday 37-0 behind Gunner Perry's three-TD night.
Perry had 72 yards on just six carries and had two 2-point conversions to lead Fort Madison.
Caden Rehm competed eight passes for 61 yards and a touchdown toss to Perry.
Gunner Steele, Valentino Maestro and Kason Lumino each had four tackles. Deshon Robinson had a 62-yard interception return.
The Little Hounds are 4-1 and take on Fairfield at home tonight.
