DONNELLSON - The Central Lee Lady Hawks went 2-2 at the Central Invitational on Saturday in Donnellson.
The Hawks knocked off SEI Super Conference foes West Burlington in a tiebreaker 2-1. The Falcons won the first set 21-17, but the Hawks rallied from five points down to take the second set 22-20 and then won the tiebreaker 15-7.
Central Lee also beat Pekin 21-6, 21-19. They lost to Mid-Prairie 21-6, 21-8 and then fell in a marathon match with Burlington 26-28, 22-25.
"Our team is continuing to make improvements. We’re a young group, but we’re learning to work together better each match," said Head Coach Amy Cook.
"Kenna (Sandoval) has been doing a great job getting to the ball, however we know we need to tighten up our passing so we can run a quicker, more effective offense. Our freshmen are getting more comfortable on the court. As we keep building trust and confidence in one another, we’ll continue to grow and gel as a team."
Sandoval led the Hawks in assists with 57 while coming up with 21 digs. Taylor Jones and Nora Lampe controlled the front with 15 kills apiece. Brylee Cook had 13 kills. Defensively, Jayden Mueller had 66 digs from the back row and Chloee Haigh put up four blocks.
The Hawks travel to Wapello for an 8-team invitational Tuesday including Holy Trinity, Mediapolis, Burlington, Wilton, English Valleys, and Columbus. They host Keokuk on Thursday.
