Editor:
I’m writing in support of Matt Mohrfeld for Iowa House. I’ve known Matt for almost 40 years.
In that time, I’ve found him to be a man of great integrity and heart. I’ve seen him grow a very successful business and family. When I say he is a man of heart, it refers to years of coaching cross country teams and swim teams, representing the region he loves, and, personally, giving me some honest and heartfelt advice through the years.
Matt was educated in a private school, and later, Iowa State University, a public entity. I appreciate his great respect for educators and education as a whole. He stays abreast of where education is headed in Iowa and is a proponent of career and technical education, as well as traditional core and more rigorous curriculum.

As a retired public educator, I am not in favor of vouchers without parameters. The current voucher system is wreaking havoc on the state budget, and, as a result, public school budgets are cutting to the bone across the state. Teachers are doing more with much less support; consequently, students are negatively affected. Matt wants to see more accountability with respect to vouchers, including the same auditing for private schools as with public, and family income guidelines. Public funds should require the same standards across the field.
My former colleagues and I used to have a running joke that our students were the people who would someday take care of us in nursing homes. Iowa was once in the top tier in education, and deserves to be there again. Our futures and our future generations deserve that. Vote for experience, vote for heart, vote for Matt Mohrfeld for Iowa House of Representatives. Our futures deserve it.
