Hellige named to 1st team Class 1A All-State

HTC junior gets big honor for sportswriters

FORT MADISON - Holy Trinity junior Luke Hellige picked up a big honor on Tuesday as he was named to the Class 1A All-State first team by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.
Hellige scored 597 points this season, tying for seventh in the state overall and third in Class 1A. He averaged 23.9 points, which ranked third in Class 1A and 17th overall.
Hellige was a 53.7-percent shooter from the field, 42.6 percent in 3-pointers. He averaged 8.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while helping lead Holy Trinity to a 19-6 record and a spot in a 1A substate final.
Hellige was joined on the first team by Winfield-Mount Union’s Cam Buffington, along with Ty Pflughaupt of North Linn, Toryn Severson of Madrid, Lance Helmin of Lake Mills, Lance McShane of Maquoketa Valley, Mason Becher of North Linn and Collin Homan of Remsen St. Mary’s.
Mason Watkins of West Burlington was a second-team pick in Class 2A. Brady Martin of West Burlington was a third-team selection.
Mount Pleasant’s Payton Hagans was a second-team pick in Class 3A.
Jesse Van Kalsbeek of MOC-Floyd Valley was named Mr. Iowa Basketball.
