KEOKUK – Fort Madison’s Avery Rump broke the Southeast Conference record in the 3000-meter run Thursday night surpassing the Bloodhounds’ own Julie Bigler for the top mark.
Rump’s 10:16.54 is now the 22nd fastest time in all classes in the state and is seventh fastest in 3A. She broke Bigler’s mark of 10:21.62, a record that’s stood since 1998.
In addition to the title in the 3000, Rump was just over half a second off the pace of Mt. Pleasant’s Avery Fedler in the 1500 at 4:55.55. That time is a top-20 time in 3A in that event.
The 4x800 relay team of Mara Smith, McKayla Schinstock, Addison Rump, and Avery Rump also claimed the Southeast title at 10:11.66 which is 21st in 3A.
The sprint medley team of Mia Mason, Peyton Burch, Smith, and Charley Huebner edged Washington by .6 of a second for the title at 1:53.41.
For the boys, Nolan Guzman took another title in the 800-meter run at 2:01.17. Guzman also anchored the 4x400 SEC title team with Mason McLey, Riley Tripp, and Henry Ireland at 3:33.84. The same group in the same order won the 4x800 relay as well at 8:17.24 and that puts them on the top 50 board in the state.
Guzman took 2nd in the high jump at 6’4” behind Fairfield’s Eli Zillman who cleared 6’6”.
The Bloodhounds Urijah Brooks was runner up in both the shot put and the discus. He threw the shot 55’8”, now a top-15 throw in the state. He finished behind Washington’s Greyson Hartman, who set new conference meet records in the shot and the discus. Brooks’ spin of 147 flat in the discus earned the Hounds another 8 points for second place.
Riley Tripp brought in a third-place finish in the 1600 meter run at 4:44.50. In the relays, the boys' distance medley claimed a runner-up with Aurelio Jaciunde, Owen Huffman, McLey, and Tripp running a 3:43.64, 1.3 seconds off Washington’s pace.
Other Lady Hound top finishes included Avery Rump in the open 800 with a 2:24.12 behind Fedler and Washington’s Iris Dahl. The distance medley team of Mason, Burch, Huebner, and Smith took 3rd at 4:38.75.
The Bloodhounds finished 4th in both the boys' and the girlsx events. The boys amassed 91 points while the girls finished with 67. Mt. Pleasant won the girls' title with 183 points and Washington won the boys' meet with 147.
For Keokuk, the girls' shuttle hurdle relay team of Alaya Carr, Nevaeh Logan, Kylee Hoard, and Baylee Billings finished at 1:10.33 for the title. For the boys, Ryan Bair won both the 100 and 200 at 11.02 and 22.10. Lincoln Wray took the title in the 400 hurdles with a 57.28.11 seconds ahead of Washington’s Isaac Medrano. The boys' 4x100 team of Kurt Joy, Jackson Bair, Antonio Crockett, and Ryan Bair finished on top at 43.83 and the sprint medley team of Jackson Bair, Jadyn Burton, Chayce Smith, and Travarius Smith finished with a 1:34.72 also took home the title.
