MEDIAPOLIS – The Central Lee girls ended their season on the road at an undefeated 8th-ranked Mediapolis in Class 3A Region 6 basketball.
The Lady Hawks end the season just under .500 at 11-12 and finished 8-6 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division.
Taylor Jones continued her strong play over the second half of the season with a dozen points in the loss. Hawks top-scorer Kenna Sandoval also had 12 in the loss.
Mediapolis opened up a quick 15-7 first quarter lead and then outscored Central Lee 21-10 heading into the break. The Hawks would find themselves down by 26 heading into the final period.
Sandoval led the ladies in scoring for the season, averaging close to 18 points per contest. Jones was second at 11 per game. Nora Lampe was also in double figures in scoring at 10.7 points per outing.
Sandoval also was tops in rebounding with 10 per game. Jones had five and Brylee Cook pulled down 4.3 boards per game. Macie Doty was tops in assists at 3.5 per game followed by Jayden Mueller with three and Jones at 1.3.
Central Lee boys down Davis County
BLOOMFIELD – The Central Lee Hawks boys' basketball team wrapped up a respectable regular season with a lopsided 78-46 win over Davis County in Bloomfield Thursday.
Central Lee posted four players in double figures, led by Kaden Swan’s 19. Will Hayes scored 15, while Carver Hayes had four three-pointers enroute to his 14. Owen Swan chipped in with a dozen.
Davis County hung around with the Hawks through the first quarter working a 12-12 tie at the end of the first, but the Hawks started to pull away in the second half opening up a 6-point 31-25 lead at the break.
The Hawks then put up 22 points in the third quarter and held the Mustangs to just nine for some breathing room. The Hawks then scored 25 in the final period led by Carver Hayes eight points.
The Hawks finish the regular season with a 14-7 overall mark and a 9-5 mark in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division. They open up regional play on Thursday when they host the winner of West Burlington/Cardinal in Class 2A Region 5 second-round action at 7 p.m. in Donnellson.
