DONNELLSON – The Central Lee Hawks swept a big SEI Super Conference doubleheader Friday night at Central Lee High School.
In the opener, Taylor Hickey’s Lady Hawks held off a 26-point performance from Falcon freshman Presley Prill to take a 57-51 win over West Burlington.
Hickey called the win a “tough one” as the Hawks had to erase deficits throughout the first half including a 13-8 in the first quarter and 30-23 at the half.
Prill knocked down three 3-pointers in the first half to go along with eight other points as the Hawks had a more balanced attack in the first half with Taylor Jones and Kenna Sandoval each with six points and Macie Doty firing in seven including a 3-pointer.
Jones had her best outing of the year so far with 21 points, 15 coming in the second half.
Trailing by seven to open the third, the Hawks went to work defensively holding West Burlington scoreless for the first three minutes. Jemma Bowman broke that open with a 3-ball for a 33-28 Falcon lead, but Central Lee would cut it to just one bucket with two minutes left in the third down 36-34.
The rally would spill into the fourth period where the Lady Hawks tied things up at 42 and then took their first lead on a 5-0 run that would prove to be too much for the visitors to overcome.
Sandoval finished with 12 on the night and Doty finished with eight.
The Hawks are done through the holidays and stand at 4-1 in SEI Super Conference play and 4-2 overall following a 53-21 loss Thursday in the Rumble on the River to Monroe City.
Hawk boys roll West Burlington
DONNELLSON – Carson Morrison seems to like the approach of the holidays. Morrison went over the 20-point mark again for Central Lee as did Will Hayes as the Hawks rolled West Burlington 67-41 Friday night in Donnellson.
The Hawks jumped out to a strong 19-4 opening period and never looked back. They allowed just 13 first half points to the Falcons.
Hayes and Kaden Swan took over in the second half with Hayes converting five field goals and the two combining to go 8-11 from the freethrow line. Morrison had a balanced night with nine points in the second half. Swan finished with 13. Brett Cook had 10 rebounds on the night for the Hawks.
The Hawks are off until Jan. 2 when they host Mediapolis in a boys'/girls' doubleheader.

FAIRFIELD – Jaxon Clark continues to tear up Southeast Conference basketball courts. The senior Chief had 51 in an 88-54 win over the Trojans Friday in Fairfield.
The Trojans were fully outgunned and had no answer for Clark as he put up 23 in the first half and 28 in the second. Jalen Clark had 14 in the Chiefs win.
The Chiefs are off until Jan. 2 when they travel to Mt. Pleasant for another Southeast Conference matchup. The Chiefs are 3-0 in the conference and 4-1 overall.
